Synopsis ~
Anne Frank's The Diary of a Young Girl is among the most enduring documents of the twentieth century. Since its publication in 1947, it has been read by tens of millions of people all over the world. It remains a beloved and deeply admired testament to the indestructible nature of the human spirit. Restored in this Definitive Edition are diary entries that were omitted from the original edition. These passages, which constitute 30 percent more material, reinforce the fact that Anne was first and foremost a teenage girl, not a remote and flawless symbol. She fretted about and tried to cope with her own sexuality. Like many young girls, she often found herself in disagreements with her mother. And like any teenager, she veered between the carefree nature of a child and the full-fledged sorrow of an adult. Anne emerges more human, more vulnerable and more vital than ever.
Anne Frank and her family, fleeing the horrors of Nazi occupation, hid in the back of an Amsterdam warehouse for two years. She was thirteen when she went into the Secret Annex with her family.
~
This book was heartbreaking but despite all of that It was very impressive how Anna was so well spoken for for her age and a fantastic writer which was one of her passions regardless. One of the many things that made me sad about this book was how the two family's always fought with each other when they were safe from harm for those few years and didn't get to enjoy life as much as Anne tried to.. Loveing each moment that they were alive and that they got to spend together. Reading the book I could feel her joy and saddness.Of course it would have been terrifying, but i'm sure not as terrifying as if they were taken away right at the start of the whole war.I wish Anne's mother wasn't so nasty towards her either. It's a shame how this world is and it's to bad that we cannot learn from past mistakes and continuing all this hatred everyday. I don't want to say this book was awesome in any seance because of all of the tragedy's that befell everyone during those times I guess I can say it was really interesting in a sad way. I wish I could have reached out to Anna and hugged her during those times of loneliness. Perhaps in the next life I will. I loved Anne's seance of humor too. She was so cute and just wanted to be loved. Being a Jew in my past life made this book even more real and soul breaking for me. It is to bad that this is a part of our history. Sometimes the bad almost outweighs the good to me at times. I was hoping that this book was going to have a happy ending but sadly it did not other than for Anne to give us a message of love and to enjoy the little things in life no matter how trivial they may seem and no matter how bad things get to keep love and happiness close to your heart.
She dreamed of one day being a famous writer. At least she got one wish and that was to have one of the most famous stories ever published. |

Synop ~ Elizabeth Bathory, the vampire countess from the seventeenth century, and her followers set up a mysterious house in Sioux Falls, Iowa, where they keep kidnapped teenage girls.
~
I pretty much don't have to explain more for the synopsis as the book went from good to bad. It was sort of repetitive and didn't have that much of a plot.It was to long winded for my taste and It also didn't make seance. Like when Bathory's lover and all powerful black magic guy who brought her and her two lesbian servants back to life and could control everything except electricity, could be so stupid and have the cops on their doorstep sooner than you could say spoon handles. After living for centuries, you'd think these people would be smarter than that. This book just really got stupid. It's the least favourite Bathory-esque book that I've read. I wouldn't even waste my time on it again. |

Pretty, young Pamela was a very happy newlywed, with a loving husband and a beautiful home. But all that changed the night Rodney broke in. He’s been obsessed with Pamela since high school, and now he intends to make her his slave for life. He thinks they’ll be alone when he drives her out to the blazing desert But someone else is out there too - someone with a gun.
Pamela hoped her nightmare was over when Rodney was shot, but something about her rescuer isn’t quite right. One thing is certain: she won’t be prepared for what she’ll find when he drives her to a tiny, isolated town baking in the desert sun. A town with very odd customs and a unique way of welcoming strangers.

This is probably one of my favorite Richard Laymon books. I liked it even better than "Darkness Tell Us." Everything is awesome and some parts actually left me with a vile taste in my mouth. I.E. I almost gagged and puked at one part haha. I really liked how everything played out along with all of the characters. One guy I totally hated, but he got a great death. (thank god or I would have ended up hating the book.)The cannibalism parts in the book were interesting and gross. I was almost convinced that something like what was in the story could actually happen in really life and turn me off of meat forever. This book didn't hold back in gore and was super descriptive. Maybe a little too descriptive at times and make me a little sick to my stomach.Richards books always surprised me at how sick and twisted this man is. I guess I shouldn't be surprised anymore, but damn.. He still can shock. |

At an end-of-term college party, six students come across a Ouija board. When a spirit called Butler tells them of a fortune hidden in the mountains, they head off on a two-day hike into the wilderness, where any danger may lie in wait to cut and slice and tear them limb from limb.
~
My Laymon books have been a little boring and unimpressive as of late, but this one I actually ended up liking. I normally end up hating certain characters, but I enjoyed all of them in this story. It still had it's twisted element's and it all ended up in a good read. I will have to remember to keep this one out for future reading. |

They cll it "The Two Hundred Cut's" - the ritual sacrifice of an animal, sometimes "the animal that eats salt." The animal known as man.
Isaiah Oke was initiated in the religion of juju as a young boy in West Africa. He learned of a spiritual universe ruled by demons, demigods and ghosts, and practiced the secret rites as a high priest, His cournty protects the religion as a civil right...
But it does not the protect the crime of murder.
Now, to expose these crimes, this former high priest reveals the shocking truth of a world that many people would like to believe does not exist. It is a fascinating and startling journey you will never forget.
~
This book was pretty intense and graphic in most cases. It paints an interesting picture of how Aid's could have seeped into America from all of the tainted blood sacrifices that have flowed throughout African history.Isaiah and millions of other people who have been victims of juju rituals is terribly horrifying to believe. To think that it even happens to this day is even more sickening. This book is a great eye opener to all of this and more. I really commend Isaiah for his bravery and all that he endured in this book and the making of this book. It's a great story about different faith's and how different religions can really mess some people/cultures up. It's funny how a lot of people think that they can get away with almost anything because it's in the face of their god's and that to them/their gods it's acceptable. It was really cute in the chapter near the end when he confronts an American woman who he thinks is really powerful by her calling him a creep and him thinking that the word creep was the name of one of her juju gods. And from her telling him "to drop dead". His innocent was to adorable for words and it made me sad that he was soon after to learn that his gods were just figments of a twisted juju faith his people believe in for centuries. This was a very interesting read which a lot of people should pick up to help become more "conscientiously aware". I am very curious to know how the author is now doing after such a soul crushing journey. |

This account of Whitley Strieber's five-year struggle to understand the alien beings he had encountered, reveals the questions he asked "the visitors", and the astounding and extensively witnessed journey of revelation the alien beings took him on. ~
This book was not what I really thought it would be. I believe in the existence of Aliens, but this book did not really help make me believe in them any more just because of the story. I was a little dissapointed to be honest. It was a little to far fetched for me to even believe. The book also did not give sufficient enough amounts of information on how the aliens are here to "help". It was a little creepy and the only thing that I could really latch onto was his talk near the end of the book about the government and how they are trying to cover us the existence of these happenings. This is the third if not fourth book in his series. I do want to read all of the others, but because I am curious to see how all of this played out before the Breakthrough book happened. I guess in the early 80's when Communion came out it was quite popular and stirred up a lot of controversy. The only thing left for me to wonder is it Whitley is still in contact with these Alien creatures. From what he has said in this book and if what he's saying WAS true then I cannot see these beings being neither good nor bad. It's a mystery that I hope that I will live to see become a reality for everyone in the near future. I don't care for Strieber any less because of his belief's. It almost makes me want to learn even more about him as a person weather he is telling the truth or not, so I guess he is really good at marketing himself. There may even be a movie about these happenings that he has experienced in his life which would be interesting to see regardless of the truth or out.

From the book jacket:
On April 20, 1999, two boys left an indelible stamp on the American psyche. Their goal was simple: to blow up their school, Oklahoma City-style, and to leave "a lasting impression on the world." Their bombs failed, but the ensuing shooting defined a new era of school violence-irrevocably branding every subsequent shooting "another Columbine."
When we think of Columbine, we think of the Trench Coat Mafia; we think of Cassie Bernall, the girl we thought professed her faith before she was shot; and we think of the boy pulling himself out of a school window-the whole world was watching him. Now, in a riveting piece of journalism nearly ten years in the making, comes the story none of us knew. In this revelatory book, Dave Cullen has delivered a profile of teenage killers that goes to the heart of psychopathology. He lays bare the callous brutality of mastermind Eric Harris and the quavering, suicidal Dylan Klebold, who went to the prom three days earlier and obsessed about love in his journal.
The result is an astonishing account of two good students with lots of friends, who were secretly stockpiling a basement cache of weapons, recording their raging hatred, and manipulating every adult who got in their way. They left signs everywhere, described by Cullen with a keen investigative eye and psychological acumen. Drawing on hundreds of interviews, thousands of pages of police files, FBI psychologists, and the boys' tapes and diaries, he gives the first complete account of the Columbine tragedy.
In the tradition of Helter Skelter and In Cold Blood, Columbine is destined to be a classic. A close-up portrait of violence, a community rendered helpless, and police blunders and cover-ups, it is a compelling and utterly human portrait of two killers-an unforgettable cautionary tale for our time.
~
I've been waiting for a book like this to come out for some time and I was really impressed and intrigued. I used to have a strange obsession with the whole Columbine thing when I was younger for various reasons and I thought I knew a lot about all the transpired, but boy was I wrong. This book clears up every and all misconceptions that you may have about events that took place. It's amazing how the news jumped around and made up a lot of stuff during the whole time Columbine happened and after. I didn't realize how tragically messed up both killers were, thinking that they were victims pretty much the through their school years. It's almost shocking some of the details in this book and the mind especially of Eric. I cannot imagine the horror that everyone had to endure the day the killings took place. It's to bad that it had to happen and my heart goes out to everyone that had to be involved. I hope that all of the victims including Eric and Dylan can rest in peace. The book chilled me to the bone in some parts and left me sad yet now fully informed. It's a shame that both Eric and Dylan were not able to get help before they committed these horrible acts. And what is even sadder is that school shootings are still happening and most in honor of the two "killers". Going through something like that is something i'm sure that no one can consciously recover from. This is probably one of the best biography type books that I have ever read. It gives you the whole picture and then some.

| Fossil Of Man's Earliest Ancestor Goes On Display |

| | blah | ] | The 47-million-year-old "missing link" fossil - known as Ida - believed to be man's earliest ancestor is going on display at London's Natural History Museum from Wednesday.

The Darwinius masillae fossil has created a frenzy in the palaeontological community amid claims it could be the link between humans and more distant ancestors.
Now museum visitors will be able to make their own minds up when a cast of Ida goes on display.
Researchers from the University of Oslo have suggested the specimen, which was found 95 per cent complete, may be the root of anthropoid evolution, when primates were first developing the features that would evolve into our own.
Discovered in Germany, Ida is so well preserved that even the outline of its fur can be seen.
Jerry Hooker, mammalian palaeontologist at the Natural History Museum, said: "The key significance of this new fossil is that it is so complete.
"Darwinius masillae has fur impressions and the remains of its last meal in its gut, letting scientists reconstruct its lifestyle as well as learn much more about a very early stage in primate evolution."
"In life it probably looked generally more like a lemur than a monkey, but with a shorter snout and shorter hind limbs."
Natural History Museum director of public engagement Sharon Ament said: "We are delighted we can give the public the chance to explore for themselves the significance of this new fossil discovery.
"We hope that the cast of the Darwinius masillae continues to capture the imagination of our visitors, and we will endeavour to keep our visitors updated on new scientific research relating to it."
The original fossil will return to the University of Oslo Natural History Museum this week.
Ida is also be the focus of a one-off David Attenborough documentary called Uncovering Our Earliest Ancestor: The Link, shown on BBC One at 9pm on Tuesday May 26. |

The servant Renfield was the most enigmatic character to stalk in the shadows of Dracula. Now he takes center stage in an ingenious re-imagining of Bram Stoker's classic novel that explores the chilling circumstances of his insane devotion to the Vampire Prince. An inmate of Rushbrook Aylum, the obsessive Renfield's personal mission is to hunt and kill Van Helsing and his companions, setting the stage for a battle between the living and the dead that takes him from Dracula's castle to the darkness of his own madness, and the truth of where it all began. Featuring characters and situations from Dracula, yet filled with new twists, Renfield is a rich, frightening, and astonishing alternate view of Stoker's legendary work.
~ + ~
This is a fantastic book. It's very well written and takes you on a different journey and perspective of Bram's Novel. I love how it was done and it is now added along side my other favorite vampire books. One thing that I though was really cute was how Renfield kept a log of how many bug/animals he captured before all of his journal entries. There is not much else to say other than awesome... Get it. |
